The Chalet refuge du pré de madame Carle is located at the foot of Mont Pelvoux and the Ecrins, above the village of Ailefroide, on the exact spot where the Glacier Noir and the Glacier Blanc once met. It's the natural base camp for exploring this mythical area and venturing as far as the glaciers, making it the ideal starting point for your snow races and winter hikes. The road from Les Claux to Pelvoux is closed during winter and spring. Access on foot, snowshoes or skis.

Restaurant service at lunchtime and refreshment bar during the day. Dinner is served at 7pm (single menu: starter-main course-dessert). Breakfast at a time agreed the day before with the manager. Rooms and dormitories are unheated and equipped with warm bed covers (please bring your own sheet or sleeping bag). The refuge does not provide towels. Sanitary facilities are shared. No showers in winter and spring, as the spring water is frozen. The refuge provides bottled water for guests. The refuge is powered by solar energy and a generator. Please bring your own headlamps and battery rechargers. There is no cell phone network at Mme Carle's. There is no wifi, but a satellite phone is available if you need it.
