Xavier talks about his craft:
"Items are made on site and you can observe all the stages necessary to create pottery. I work on a potter's wheel and make small series of everyday objects such as bowls, salad dishes, cups, jugs...
The main raw material is natural sandstone from La Puisaye (north of the Burgundy area) which is known for being resistant and hard wearing: all of my creations are dishwasher and microwave proof.
I pay particular attention to the ergonomics of my pieces; they should be pleasant to look at but also to touch and use.
Once it has been thrown, and after a week of drying out, the pottery is fired for the first time at a temperature of 1000°C.
The second stage is then the enamelling.
I make my own enamels based on my own research. This is the most technical part of my work: inevitable molecular calculations...
I use natural minerals such as kaolin, silica, chalk...as well as metal oxides such as iron oxide, cobalt, copper...Once the pieces are enamelled, they are fired again in a gas oven at 1300°C.
I sell a large part of my production on site but I also participate in collaborative sales networks such as "L'Association des Artisans et Paysans des Alpes du Sud" in Briançon or "La Cooperative des Artisans du Queyras" in Château Ville Vielle".
